For large, long-term investments, local SEO mightn’t apply to what you’re after. If you simply want a coffee to kickstart the day, local SEO can save you from spending all day trying to kickstart it.

Local SEO works the same way traditional SEO works, except for one difference; Google’s algorithm for local SEO considers proximity a main factor (its other main factors are relevance and prominence, like traditional SEO).

Collectively, we’re conditioned to search for things on our phones before window shopping. An optimized profile considers the user experience. A stunning portrait of your shop’s facade, business hours that account for holidays, and a detailed description of what your business is about; all these things will help make your Google Business Profile sparkle against lacklustre competitors.

Encourage Customer Reviews

Positive customer engagement is one of the pillars of a successful business, especially a small business. Encouraging reviews is a key part of that engagement. Reviews matter; there’s no way around this fact.

Invite satisfied customers to leave glowing reviews wherever they feel, whether it’s on social media or your Google Business Profile. These are the endorsements that make Google take notice.

Utilise Online Directories

Your Google Business Profile is one online business directory. There are more, lots more. Make sure you take advantage of any relevant to your industry and your location. Yellow Pages and Pure Local are two of Australia’s most popular online directories. Start with these. Then refine your strategy to focus on smaller directories more relevant to your local area and community.

Like any attempt to enhance your small business, local SEO is only effective when it forms part of a larger strategy. Once you’ve optimized your local keywords, keep going. Create content that sparkles when held against your competitors’ content.
