If you’ve moved to a new home, you’ll need to reset your LiftMaster keypad.
The same applies if you’re having trouble remembering the PIN code or suspect someone knows it, and the list of reasons goes on.
Fortunately, this is a simple process that won’t take more than a few minutes. It only requires three straightforward steps.
In this post, I’ll guide you on how to reset your LiftMaster keypad.
The 3 Steps to Reset a LiftMaster Keypad
By applying the following instructions, you can successfully reset your LiftMaster keypad:
1. Press the “Learn” Button to Delete the Current Code
To restore the keypad, you need first to delete the current PIN code.
The “Learn” button on the control panel of your garage door opener is responsible for storing this code. So, you’ll need to access it.
To achieve this, head to the control panel of the door opener.
Some LiftMaster control panels can be mounted at a low position, and you can easily access them. Conversely, overhead control panels require a ladder to reach them.
On the control panel, look for the “Learn” button. It’s usually purple, yellow, or red. Press and hold the button.
That said, avoid pressing the “Learn” button if one of your neighbors is using their garage remote control at that moment.
That’s because if you press the “Learn” button while someone is using their garage remote within a near distance, this might interfere with the resetting process.
It may even result in accidentally programming your garage opener to work with that remote control instead of yours. This is undoubtedly the last thing you want to happen.
2. Set the New PIN Code
Once you’ve pressed the “Learn” button, you’ll have only 30 seconds to enter a new security code. So, you need to complete this process promptly.
To achieve this, go to the keypad and enter the new four-digit code. Then, press and hold the “Enter” button for a few seconds until the light bulb on the door starts to blink. You might also notice a clicking sound.
These two signs indicate that you’ve successfully reset the security code of your LiftMaster keypad.
3. Check the New Code
To ensure that the new code is working, you need to test it. This is done by following the regular steps of opening the garage door: type the code and press “Enter.”
How Do I Program My Garage Door for the First Time?
Like resetting the LiftMaster keypad, programming the door opener for the first time is a ridiculously simple process. It’ll only take you a few minutes to complete it.
Here are the three steps to follow:
1. Prepare the Keypad for Programming
To program your LiftMaster keypad for the first time, you need to prepare it to communicate with the garage opener.
To achieve this, simultaneously press and hold the pound (#) and asterisk (*) keys on the keypad.
Keep holding the keys until a red light shows up on the keypad.
2. Press the “Learn” Button to Activate the Opener
To activate the garage door opener, you’ll need to access the “Learn” button. To do so, head to the control panel of the garage opener.
Look for the “Learn” button, usually accompanied by a label holding its name.
Press and hold the “Learn” button for a few seconds, then release it. Nonetheless, you may need to do this twice if your LiftMaster opener has a myQ panel.
After that, you’ll have only 30 seconds to enter your security code.
3. Set Your New Security Code
Now, it’s time to enter your unique security code. To do so, type a four-digit code using the keypad and then press “Enter.”
Once you press “Enter,” the bulb of the LiftMaster opener will begin to blink. This is an indication that the new code has been activated. To end the programming process, press the “0” key.
Nonetheless, if you don’t enter the new code in only 30 seconds, you’ll need to repeat the second and third steps.

You need first to press and hold the” Learn” button. Then, enter the new PIN code within 30 seconds.
