Big fans of the hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory have definitely watched, or at least heard of, the spin-off show, Young Sheldon. Much of the cast on that show quickly became beloved characters, but Zoe Perry, Sheldon’s mother, stood out the most.
While I will take a look at her intriguing life later, today my main focus will be her husband, Gab Taraboulsy. He’s led a fascinating career working behind the camera, producing, directing, and culinary storytelling.
The couple’s shared love for creative expression makes them such a dynamic pair! So, let’s dive into each of their stories and see what makes them role models to some.
Early Life & Beginnings: Who Is Gab Taraboulsy?

Gab Taraboulsy was born on August 20, 1981, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, a city known for its vibrant culinary and artistic scene. I’d like to think that growing up in this multicultural environment shaped Gab’s future passion for storytelling and food.
Aside from his professional pursuits (which I dig into later), Gab is a die-hard baseball fan. He proudly “bleeds Dodger Blue,” which speaks volumes about his loyalty and passion. Gab also loves to cook and travel to craft visually stunning food documentaries that would make your mouth water.
Interesting fact: Gab Taraboulsy is a polyglot, meaning he speaks several languages, and among his other hobbies is collecting vinyl records.
Career Timeline: What Does Gab Taraboulsy Do?
Gab Taraboulsy’s career blends together filmmaking, producing, and culinary storytelling. He’s best known for the latter. On his Instagram, you can see snippets of his stunning food documentaries that dive deep into the emotions and stories behind what we eat.

If you wish to see more of his work, check out his award-nominated projects like The Grill Iron and Heritage. Both cinematic pieces showcase Gab’s talent for capturing mouthwatering visuals and writing heartfelt narratives.
His work has also earned prestigious accolades, including Webby Awards recognition and three James Beard nominations — which, if you ask me, are basically the Oscars of the culinary world.
Next to his incredible food journeys, Taraboulsy produces episodes on the popular series The Kardashians on Hulu and Disney+. Additionally, he collaborates on projects with many big-name clients like Tastemade, Budweiser, and Hyundai.
Gab Taraboulsy’s Full-Service Production Company: Delicious Cinema
Taraboulsy’s passion for storytelling is the foundation of his full-service production company, Delicious Cinema.
Based in Los Angeles, the company specializes in cinematic culinary documentaries (hence the name). Co-founded by Gab and producer/editor Alexander Emanuele, Delicious Cinema brings food stories to life with visually stunning films.
The company’s mission statement is clear; to uncover the rich narratives behind every plate, kitchen, and chef.

The Grill Iron
The Grill Iron won Best Culinary Web Series in 2015 by the International Association of Culinary Professionals. The series was also nominated to win Visual and Technical Excellence during the same year by the James Beard Foundation Awards.
Those stats alone should sell you on the series! Beyond that, the show highlights the intersection of college football and regional food culture. Each episode invites a top chef to create tailgate-inspired dishes.
If you ask me, this series blends everything that is American: a passion for sports and an undying love for great food.
Heritage
Heritage stands out for winning Best Documentary Series of 2016 during the Webby Awards. The documentary takes a deeper look into the kitchens, minds, and hearts of the country’s top chefs.
Heritage is a deeply personal exploration of food origins. It celebrates the legacy of culinary traditions through beautiful visuals and heartfelt storytelling. It also captures how cultural heritage is preserved through recipes passed down for generations.
Taste the Nation
Now we come to Taraboulsky’s more recent works. Taste the Nation is a new Hulu series that takes a look at what makes America the melting pot of cultures and cuisines that it is. Its goal is to celebrate what food contributions immigrants have brought to the USA.
Delicious Cinema had the honor to work on and produce three episodes of Padma Lakshmi’s docuseries. Those episodes are:
- “WHERE THE KABOB IS HOT” – The Iranians of Los Angeles
- “ZEN AND THE ART OF POKE” – The Japanese of Hawaii
- “THE ALL-AMERICAN WEINER” – The Germans of Milwaukee
Funke

Funke tells the story of chef Evan Funke’s passionate pursuit to revive the ancient art of handmade pasta.
It’s a feature-length documentary that explores the highs and lows of Funke’s career. It also takes a look into the chef’s attempt to open a world-class pasta restaurant on Los Angeles’ competitive Abbot Kinney Boulevard.
Funke received widespread critical acclaim for how moving the story was. It earned several prestigious accolades, including a 2019 James Beard Award nomination for Best Documentary and Best Feature Film in the 2019 Toronto Food Film Festival.
Personal Life: Gab Taraboulsy & Zoe Perry’s Marriage
Both Gab Taraboulsy and Zoe Perry work in the entertainment industry. They tied the knot in 2021 and currently live in Los Angeles, balancing their busy careers and marriage together.
The couple stays booked and busy, yet still finds time to stay connected and bond over their mutual love for theater and film.
In a video circulating on TikTok, Zoe Perry spoke highly of her husband, describing him as “…[a] man who puts his heart into everything [and that’s] an understatement.”
To me, what’s especially admirable about this relationship is how low-key they have kept their personal life. They work hard avoiding the public spotlight to focus on their work and shared creative passions.

Fun Fact: The married couple has a rescue dog that they completely adore. No plans for kids yet, but they love their Kokoni dog, Rocko! How cute, right?
Gab Taraboulsy’s Wife: Who Is Zoe Perry?
Zoe Perry is a talented actress best known for playing Mary Cooper, Sheldon’s loving but no-nonsense mother on the hit show Young Sheldon. Her birthday is on September 26, making her a Libra. She was born in 1983 in Chicago, Illinois.
Few people know that Zoe in fact comes from acting royalty! Her parents are the celebrated actors, Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. Those of you who already knew this, don’t you agree that Zoe looks a lot like her mother?

And here’s a little tidbit for the fans out there: Laurie Metcalf played Sheldon’s mother on The Big Bang Theory. Talk about a full circle!
Interestingly too, Zoe never relied on her family’s fame to pave her way. Her family never pushed her into acting either, wanting her to find her passion by herself.
Lucky for us, she was naturally drawn to the performing arts from a young age. At that point, she would visit her parents on set and watch them work. Later on, she would pursue a theater degree at Northwestern University and hone her craft through stage performances.
After graduation, Zoe started steadily building her resume with multiple guest roles on hit TV shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Private Practice, Scandal, and Grey’s Anatomy.
Zoe Perry’s Career Achievements
Yes, Zoe’s acting journey began with guest roles, but it was her portrayal of Mary Copper on Young Sheldon that brought her into the spotlight. Her acting in the series earned critical praise thanks to her ability to bring warmth, strength, and vulnerability to the character.
Playing a younger version of her own mother’s character from The Big Bang Theory proved how incredible her acting skills are.
Here’s where it gets interesting: this isn’t the first time Zoe Perry was cast to play a younger version of her mother. Her first on-screen appearance was as a young Jackie Harris on Roseanne, a character her mother played.

So, it seems this is a pattern that might continue throughout Zoe’s career!
In addition to her TV work, Zoe has continued pursuing her love for live theater. She’s performed on Broadway and in various productions, such as The Way West and Turkey Bowl.
Wrapping Up
Zoe Perry’s husband, Gab Taraboulsy, is a director and producer who crafts compelling culinary documentaries with moving narratives. His notable, award-winning works include Heritage, The Grill Iron, and Funke. Most recently, he’s worked on Hulu’s new docuseries, Taste of the Nation.
The couple has been married for 4 years (as of 2025). They live in Los Angeles and have a dog, Rocko, together. Both share a mutual love for theatre, film, and food. They keep most of their relationship private though, preferring to lead a low-key life.
That said, we hope these artists consider collaborating soon, as we’d love to see what they’d come up with!
